Ishbel MacAskill (born 14 March 1941, Broker, Isle of Lewis – died 31 March 2011) was a heritage activist and traditional Scottish Gaelic singer, often referred to as the "Gaelic diva".
She sang in Washington, D.C. and in Canada's Cape Breton, as well as at Glasgow's celebrated Celtic Connections festival and on the Transatlantic Sessions television series. She also appeared in the popular 1990s Gaelic language soap opera, Machair, on Scottish television, playing "Nora".[1]
She died in Inverness in 2011, aged 70, from undisclosed causes.
